Installation
After downloading the Stuffit archive, uncompress it (if your browser did not automatically already do so) and run the Pop-Up Zapper Lite Installer. The installer will take care of the rest. You will need to reboot for the software to work.

If you try to download from the demo or upgrade page and your browser opens a window full of junk text, try a different link for the download. We offer the software in 3 different formats. Stuffit archive, BinHex and Binary in the same page.

How to use Pop-Up Zapper Lite
Most people need simply run Pop-Up Zapper Lite to benefit from the software. However, you will gain the maximum benefit from the program if you have an understanding of how Pop-Up Zapper works.

Pop-Up Zapper Lite can tell when a new window is opening up in IE. If the software determines that the window is a pop-up, it is made invisible and destroyed a second later. If you set a specific preference, a pop-up window will be allowed if you recently clicked the mouse, such as on a link, understanding that it may be a desirable pop-up window.

If you want to replace Pop-Up Zapper Lite's sound, simply save a copy of the file zap.aiff and replace it with your favorite sound.

When you customize sites that should be allowed to have popup windows, Pop-Up Zapper Lite stores this information inside your preferences folder in a file called ZapperLiteData. You may want to back it up sometime if you have made several customizations.

Turning Pop-Up Zapper Lite on or off, or off temporarily
The first thing that you should know is that you can always turn Pop-Up Zapper Lite off. From the Zap menu select the "Enabled" item. You can also tell Pop-Up Zapper Lite to ignore only the next pop-up window that comes up by pressing Command-Control-z. But most of the time a click of the mouse will tell Pop-Up Zapper Lite that you want the next window open if you have set the preference for that. Command-Control-x turns Pop-Up Zapper Lite on and off. Please note that it is important to do this key combinations by pressing the command key first, otherwise IE may think that you want to open a contextual menu.

About pop-ups
You may have noticed that pop-ups do not always come up in the same place at the same time. Web developers use a feature called "cookies" to keep track of their pop-ups. They can issue a pop-up only the first day of a week, every time you visit a place, a different one in each visit or every other day. It's all up to them.

There are many ways of making pop-ups, and Pop-Up Zapper Lite uses many methods to identify them. Still, web developers are likely to keep finding new ways in the future. It's like a mutating virus. If you ever have been hijacked by pop-up windows (windows that keep coming up every second and show you things you never wanted to see in the first place) you know what I mean. If you have never been hijacked, Pop-Up Zapper Lite will prevent it from happening to you in the future. By closing windows before they get the chance to fully load you are avoiding one of these nasty incidents. Note that many of the hijackings happen when you misspell a well-known address. They count on you doing this.

Frequently asked questions

I try to enter my serial number but I get an "Invalid" error
The serial number works in combination with the name used at the time you registered Pop-Up Zapper Lite. Please make sure that you enter the serial number exactly as it was given to you in the email along with the name. You may want to copy and paste the serial number and make sure there are no spaces or anything else around the serial number or your name.

I am using Internet Explorer but Pop-Up Zapper Lite is not working, I see popup windows
The first thing to check is that Pop-Up Zapper Lite is running, then check that it is "Enabled" by clicking on the "Zap" menu. The last thing to check is that your Internet Explorer is actually called "Internet Explorer". Pop-Up Zapper Lite checks IE by name for speed purposes and does not do anything if IE is not called "Internet Explorer".

I tried to run Pop-Up Zapper Lite, but it quits right after it shows a trial notice
By default, the latest Pop-Up Zapper Lite runs at startup and then quits automatically. As soon as you run IE, zapper starts again automatically. If you want zapper to run and stay there, just double click on it twice on a row within 10 seconds. Double click it, it runs and quits after the trial notice. Double click again and it will stay there. You can change this setting in the Preferences. Make sure you did not rename its alias in the startup items folder, because it counts on this alias being there and that your IE is called "Internet Explorer".

I upgraded to Pop-Up Zapper Lite 2.0 and now my main window is closed sometimes.
We fixed that bug in version 2.02

I have some customized sites, but after a while of being there Pop-Up Zapper Lite Unexpectedly quits.
We fixed that bug in version 2.04, we left a diagnostics debugger call by mistake which caused the crash.
