General Questions:
I lost my serial number to one of your programs, how can I get it back? Send us an email to our support address telling us what product you had,
your name and email address that you used at the time of purchase and we will do our best to find your serial number and email it back to you. Please
make sure that emails from batista.org are not blocked at your server or ISP, as that is the only way to get back to you and there is nothing we can do
if our message is bounced back. Our address is sup at batista.org (replace at with @ and eliminate the spaces) sorry about making the email address
difficult but spammers scan web pages for email addresses and we have to stay one step ahead or change email addresses again, that is unfair to you and
very inconvenient to us.
Leopard OS X 10.5 and activation issues (saying trial expired, error activating, eSellerate problems, etc)
We have spent many hours (when I can since I am temporarily disabled) looking for a solution to this and I was just about to create a new version of autoID
with an extended trial date to buy me some time. As it turns out the problem is a bug in Leopard and someone created a small installer package that fixes
the problem and makes autoID, Baby Safe II (and other eSellerate based programs) work again. Please note that Safari Extender for Safari 3.0 under 10.4.11
and 10.5 is going through major changes since Safari version 3 changed quite a bit, so we need more time to make it work again.
You can download the third party installer package to fix the activation, trial notices and activation of our eSellerate based programs fromĘ
https://spaces.umbc.edu/display/CIG/Web-based+VPN+on+Mac+OS+X+Leopard
A direct link to that installer package to solve the Leopard bug is here
. After running that installer you can run autoID again with no problems. Thank you to Steve Smith for finding this and thank you all for your patience.
If you also have Safari Extender we are working on the issues as Safari changed a lot in the Leopard and 3.0 version, note that you still need the fix
mentioned above to make the eSellerate libraries work with our programs.
I tried to purchase, but there was an error using my credit card.
Sometimes the credit card companies fail to authorize a credit card for any number of reasons. Check the following:
- That your computer date is correct.
- That you entered the correct credit card number.
- That you entered the correct billing address for the credit card you used.
- That if a security code is required, you used it. Or try without the security code.
Safari Extender:
Safari Extender does not seem to do anything under Leopard OS X 10.5 We are working on it, we could not support beta versions of Safari and we had to
wait until the final version was available. Safari Extender is a very complicated piece of software and Safari has changed substantially so we need time
to do things right. The features in Safari Extender may change for the Leopard compatible release.
How do I open Safari Extender? Safari Extender is a contextual menu item that only works within Safari. Once you install Safari Extender quit Safari,
then run it again and after a web page loads hold down the control key while clicking the mouse inside the web page. Hold the key and the mouse down
and a couple of seconds later a menu will pop-up under the mouse. The functionality of Safari Extender is accessed via this menu.
How do I uninstall Safari Extender? Quit Safari, then open your Library/Contextual Menu Items folder and trash Safari Extender. Now you can run Safari again.
Where are the preferences for Safari Extender saved? Your name and serial number are stored in the Safari preferences file, which is located in the Library/Preferences folder.
Tabs sets are also stored in there, but if you have version 1.5.9 of Safari Extender (or newer) there is also a file in your home directory with a backup of the
tab sets. The file is called Safari_Tab_Sets_Backup.txt
I am trying to activate Safari Extender, but the activation fails. What do I do? Safari Extender versios prior to 1.6.2 required to be activated
after the name and serial number where given, we no longer require that as of version 1.6.2 When making a purchase through a web site, sometimes the sales
information would take up to 15 minutes to propagate through the eSellerate servers, so activating 15 minutes later would usually work. In some cases however,
an activation could fail if you were behind a proxy server or secure connections were not allowed. So we got rid of this requirement.
I have my name and serial number for Safari Extender ready, but I cannot seem to enter it correctly. Your program does not allow copy and paste for the serial. How can
I do this easily? Quit Safari. Now open the application "Terminal" which is found in the Applications/Utilities folder, copy and paste the following command (after
supplying your name and serial instead of the place holders IN_CAPITALS) and press enter:
defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari "ExtenderName" 'YOUR_NAME_HERE_AS_USED_IN_THE_ORDER'
defaults write ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari "ExtenderSerialNumber" 'YOUR_SERIAL_NUMBER_HERE'
Quit Terminal, run Safari and you should be OK now.
autoID:
I just upgraded to an Intel Mac, and the data in autoID looks like junk. What do I do? You need to upgrade to the Intel compatible (Universal binary)
version of autoID. autoID will then convert your data to an Intel compatible format. Upgrades are always free.
Does autoID work with Firefox? Unfortunately not at this time. Firefox does not support the apple-event used to query the browser for the current
web page, therefore autoID does not know what Firefox is doing. But stay tuned, we may have a workaround soon.
Baby Safe II:
When is Baby Safe II going to be a Universal binary? Baby Safe II works fine in Intel Macs using Rosetta, but we will have an Intel version soon.
SpeedManiac:
I just upgraded to Tiger, Mac OS 10.4 and SpeedManiac crashes sometimes or web pages do not open, it gives a DNS error message. What is up? SpeedManiac
was made somewhat Tiger compatible, but in version 1.7.0 we reworked many issues with Tiger and Intel Macs. Just upgrade to the latest version for free as usual.
I was trying SpeedManiac, then it crashed and now I cannot access any web page. What do I do? Versions of SpeedManiac prior to 1.7.0 could crash on
OS X 10.4 or earlier systems with Airport Extreme. The problem is that SpeedManiac changed your networks settings to use SpeedManiac as a proxy server before
it crashed. To undo this change open the system preferences, then click on the network settings, select your network connection and enable the HTTP proxy
setting. Enter 127.0.0.1 and port 1080 in the boxes for proxy and port. Click Apply to set the change. Now uncheck the box and click Apply again. Now your
computer knows not to use a proxy server again.

Pop-Up Zapper:
Installation
After downloading the disk image file (the file whose name ends with .dmg), see if there is a disk on your desktop named Pop-Up Zapper or something similar. If not then double click the disk image file and a disk will be made on your desktop.
|
 |
 |
|
 |
 |
Double click the disk to open it and inside you will find a program called Pop-Up Zapper Installer. Run the Pop-Up Zapper Installer.
Once you run the Pop-Up Zapper (it should run automatically), you should be able to see its icon on the Dock. You may need to quit IE and run it again before Pop-Up Zapper can be activated.
Customizing Pop-Up Zapper 2.0
You can customize which sites should be allowed to have popups based on what is on the front window of your browser. From Pop-Up Zapper select "Customize Popup Sites..." from the Customize menu.
There are two possible actions for web locations you enter there, Zap this site and Allow popups if in front. You enter a "partial" web location and you specify the action for it. You only need to enter as much information as to make the site or page unique (such as the main "website" name followed by a specific page or just the website name. "Zap this site" would close that window and can be used for filtering or preventing kids from going to certain sites.
"Allow popups if in front" indicates that if the front window has an address that partially matches what you specified, the site is allowed to make popups. Note that if you change what window is in front (or a popup loads) now the "front" window has changed to something else and your rule may not apply anymore.
Some examples:
To allow the CNN poll windows: enter www.cnn.com as an allow address. Now you can go to www.cnn.com, and click on the poll or the poll results and the popup window will load. Be aware that with such example other popups from CNN could also load.
To allow the listings at TV Guide: enter tvguide.com/listings as an allow address. Now when you are in tvguide.com, and you have clicked on the listings, you can open popups with program details.
Your custom data is stored in two text files inside your Documents folder: "Popup IgnoreBlank.txt" and "Popup Zap Sites.txt". If you have a file called Popup Ignore Sites.txt, it is not used anymore in version 2.0 of Pop-Up Zapper but you may want to use some of those site locations where popups should be allowed.

Frequently asked questions
I try to make a new window and it is being zapped! Why?
Upgrade to Pop-Up Zapper 2.12 or above. Upgrades are always free.
I tried installing but the installation failed.
Most likely you have a "permissions" problem. You can make sure that is the problem by looking at the installation log inside your Library -> Logs folder. There is an Apple program that fixes permissions on your hard disk. Please see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106712 for a program from Apple that fixes that.
I see a blue X in the Pop-Up Zapper icon. What does that mean?
It means that Pop-Up Zapper is disabled. You need to enable it via the status window, dock icon or other means. It useful to enable and disable Pop-Up Zapper when you are at web sites which require popup windows to function.
I see a yellow/gold X in the Pop-Up Zapper icon. What does that mean?
First, make sure that you have version 2.06 or above as older versions of Pop-Up Zapper were very picky about being activated. The gold X means that Pop-Up Zapper is enabled and running, and IE is running but Pop-Up Zapper is not "active". Once you run Internet Explorer you need to hold the control key down and click on a web window. Pop-Up Zapper will then appear at the bottom of a popup menu and activate itself. The X should be gone from the icon shortly. Version 2.06 does this for you automatically if your IE window is somewhere near the center of the main screen. If you just installed and IE was running you may need to quit and run IE again.
I try to enter my serial number but I get an "Invalid" error
The serial number works in combination with the name used at the time you registered Pop-Up Zapper.
Please make sure that you enter the serial number exactly as it was given to you in the email along with the name.
You may want to copy and paste the serial number and make sure there are no spaces or anything else around the serial
number or your name.
I am running Pop-Up Zapper, but I still see "popups" on every window
What you are seeing on every window are "banner" ads. Pop-Up Zapper does not prevent banner ads which reside inside a
window along with other content. Banner ads help pay for the web sites you go to. What Pop-Up Zapper does is zap away ads
that come up on their own window (front or behind), these windows prevent you from looking at the original page.
Where do I find the preferences for Pop-Up Zapper?
Click on the dock icon for Pop-Up Zapper, and once Pop-Up Zapper comes up to the front you can select "Preferences"
from the "Pop-Up Zapper" menu.
