Baby Safe II is an interactive program for Mac OS X 10.2 and above (10.3 and 10.4 OK) that provides a safe environment for your baby to play with the computer, while at the same time preventing your baby from causing chaos on your computer.
Once you run Baby Safe II, it displays basic geometric shapes, the alphabet, numbers and pictures as the baby or toddler hits the keyboard or uses the mouse. Sounds are also used to teach the alphabet and the numbers. While Baby Safe II is active your work is safe and your baby can have some fun and learn a little bit.
Baby Safe II uses the whole screen, and it prevents application switching, the Dock and the menu bar from appearing. The power key is also disabled while Baby Safe II is running so there is no way to get out of the program until you type a special word. Babies (and cats I am told) are therefore free to play around on the computer.
Once a special word such as "byebye", "adios", "quit", "exit", "ciao" or "au revoir" is typed, Baby Safe II stops the animation and returns the menu and Dock to you. The chances of a baby typing that exact sequence of letters is very, very low.
The best thing to do is to setup Baby Safe II on your Dock, so that you can get to it quickly when you see the baby approaching you. The first time you run Baby Safe II open the preferences (after you type byebye).
In the Preferences you have options to show your own pictures or not, how often, use sounds, musical chords, and more. The option to run at login can be used when your computer is set to login automatically at startup, should the baby press the power key and turn on the computer Baby Safe II will run automatically. Now that Baby Safe II is an application we can expand the program with mini games or other things, so send us your ideas. We are considering an option to monitor the mouse so that if you set it in a specific corner then we run Baby Safe II, as the old screen saver used to do.
Baby Safe II is Shareware, it costs 20 U.S. dollars after a 15 day trial period.

Baby Safe Screen Saver presents a safe environment for your baby, displaying letters, numbers and pictures while your baby can play with the mouse and keyboard. Because it works as a screen saver there is no menus or Dock. Your baby can just play and learn things while your work is protected.
Once a special word such as byebye, quit, adios or exit is typed, the screen saver can exit.

Installation
Download the file "BabySafe.sit" and after the file is uncompressed you will see a disk with an installer application called "Install Baby Safe". Double click the installer. The installer will install the screen saver inside the "Screen Savers" folder in your Library folder. If the installation fails and you use a language other than English, we recommend you make the "Screen Savers" folder and install again, then move the screen saver to its proper location (depending on your language).
Open the System Preferences, and select "Screen Saver" or "Screen Effects" (if you have OS X 10.2 or above).
From the list of screen savers on the left, select "Baby Safe".
For the best effect and baby protection, we recommend clicking on the "Hot Corners" tab and selecting a corner to activate the screen saver. Click on the corner you want until a "+" sign shows there. That would mean that if you move the mouse to that corner Baby Safe will be activated at that time.
