I have been programming computers since 1986. In 1989 I got a job at Apple Computer. A few years ago, (in 1991 I believe) I created a utility called Extensions Manager. It became extremely popular and it was free. I'm hoping that you will find some of these utilities as useful now as Extensions Manager was back then, except this time there is a catch. You'll be helping my kids go to college with your support. I have created about 30 free or shareware utilities over the years. Some of which you may have used in the past. The development, research and support of these utilities costs money. Thank you for your support.
If you were a happy user of Extensions Manager you can donate to us via Paypal
Some of the free or shareware utilities I worked in the past that are no longer available (and for Mac OS 9) are:
- Extensions Manager - Would allow you to trouble shoot your Mac software.
- Norton Essentials for the PowerBook - Worked on some modules, not everything in the package.
- NoFinder - Would kill programs, re-launch, show memory usage, etc.
- Zync - A full file syncrhonization program and backup utility, may revive it someday.
- CDNamer - It let you put names to music CDs, and name songs so you would not see things like Track0, Track1, etc.
- ZDPlayer - A program to play, pause, rewind, fast forward music CDs.
- Talking Heads - This was like AIM, worked in local networks but back in 1989! It had split screen, typefaces, file sharing and more.
- AutoPlayer - Would play a music CD as soon as you put it in the computer.
- Backlight Control - The first ever program to dim the display of a laptop to save battery, and then increase the light once you did something.
- DragWindow INIT - The first ever program to drag the whole image of a window, instead of a silly outline.
- GetKeys - A programmer utility
- Neighborhood Watch - A chatting utility over the local network, where everyone would talk in a shared session.
- TalkTool - A network utility to find printers, computers, servers, check on them, and so on.
- Virtual ROM - A utility to copy the Mac ROM into RAM memory, in order to make access to it faster and speed up the computer.
- HyperTerminal - A terminal program for HyperCard.
- ALogger - A program that would record every file opened, accessed, etc.
- Backup Control - A full file backup utility that worked with servers, on a certain time, file types, etc.
- Driver Installer - A utility that would create simple drivers and create an installer program for them.
- LightSaver - Hmm, I think this was a program to play with the LCD lights on a computer.
- Midnite - Another file backup program that would log you into servers, backup the files and so on.
- Print Queue - Would show you what files were waiting to be printed on a printer.
- Router Check - A utility that would check a router every so often, and report when the router was missbehaving.
- Show Globals - A simple utility to show the low memory global variables in the Mac OS.
- Sticky Mouse - Would move the mouse pointer right on front of the active button on dialog box, to save you time.
- TypeWriter - A program that would let you type text while making typewriter sounds, like in the old days.
- Type DA - A quick desk accessory to do as above, but for quick jobs.
- wMenus - A test program to show menus being controlled by a keyboard, not a mouse.
- wake100 - Wake up a laptop at certain times of the day.
- Coyotes - A classic game very similar to Centipede.
- Lots of HyperCard and 4D external commands and stuff I can't even remember anymore
